SYDNEY CHAMBER OPERA

SCO is a young and exciting new opera company, sprung from the loving loins of the USU Their incredibly successful 2011 season draws to a close with an inventive staged double bill of J S Bach's Cantata No. 82 Ich Habe Genug with Jack Symonds's Nunc Dimittis (world premiere).

SCO, formed in 2010 by a group of Sydney students, has provided fantastic opportunities for young singers, artists, writers, directors and composers: the majority of whom have been Sydney University students or alumni. The company is currently nominated for two Limelight Magazine Awards for their recent productions of A Cunning Little Vixen and Notes From The Underground. Vote for them here.

AIME

Former USU Indigenous Convenor, Jack Manning Bancroft, began a project in 2005 to produce a mentoring program for indigenous high school students, run through Sydney University. Since its inception it has grown to an incredibly successful scheme.

2009 is a big year for AIME as we continue to tackle inequality in Indigenous education. We’re now running out of 4 separate Universities with plans to double this very soon. We’re partnering up more Indigenous high school kids with University students than ever before. AIME represents a chance to be part of something real. Become a mentor, a friend, a partner with a young Indigenous person who needs you.

Bambina Borracha

Bambina Borracha Productions formed in August 2007 to produce works by exciting emerging artists across a variety of creative forms. Working with emerging artists, to enhance their knowledge and experience and create works of a professional standard is the key aim of the company.

The company’s premiere show Persephone’s Wolf debuted at the CarriageWorks Arts Centre in 2008 before touring to critical success at the Adelaide Fringe Festival.

This show was a new Australian work combining theatre, live music, film and an accompanying cross-media installation created by local artists. In total, Persephone’s Wolf involved over 30 emerging creators and was a sparkling incarnation of the company’s key aim – to propel exciting emerging artists into the professional arena. Since then, Bambina Borracha Productions has put the call out to find emerging artists with great projects and skills to become a part of our 2009 Season.

After an overwhelming response, the company has selected six works to develop and produce through a combination of production work and the Creative Development Program.

The company continues to work with emerging artists and provide them with infinite creative opportunities, be their interests in directing, writing, producing, performing or creating of any kind.

The Delusionists

A group of random ex-theatresports players and Dramatic Society members were keen to do a sketch show based on some of the best material from the Revues and their own new work. They have since produced professional shows at the Riverside Theatre in Paramatta.
