Environment

The USU takes environmental considerations very seriously.

Manning House is a showcase of environmentally sound building with hydraulic sub floor heating, solar powered hot water, gas cooking, natural ventilation and automatic and motion sensitive light switches.

The Environment Convenors work closely with staff to promote an awareness of ecologically sound practices and environmental awareness amongst the University Community.

Will Clegg & Nat Ware are the USU Environment Convenors in 2009. They can be reached at

The USU likes this planet. We take care to reduce our impact on it.

Our printing is done on recycled or sustainable paperstock.

We recycle paper in our offices for writing-pads. All our faxes are sent to our email and we only print them off as required.

We recycle our toners and cartridges (bring yours into The ACCESS Centre if you have any). We turn off our computers and monitors each evening.

We recycle our cans, plastic bottles and containers in the recycling bins located in each USU building. We are a collection site for recycling corks (bring them into The ACCESS Centre).

We are a collection site for recycling mobile phones (bring them into The ACCESS Centre).

If you have any ideas about what else we could be doing please email your environment convenors: .

Environment Convenors 2009

Nathaniel Ware

Nat is a third year Economics/Law student who is actively involved in various facets of university life. He has been Conferences Director for the United Nations Society, an Executive member of the Politics Society, has served on the Academic Board, and was a member of the Economics and Business Faculty Board.

His commitment to social justice led to him founding 180 Degrees, an international student organisation which identifies unmet social needs and develops innovative, practical and sustainable solutions to address them. As Environment Convenor for 2009, Nat hopes to engage the student community with a range of environmental issues in an entertaining and thought-provoking way.

He also hopes to implement some practical measures to make the university more environmentally sustainable. Nat believes that soccer is the real football, that skinny ties aren't a fashion mistake, and that Azurri's Irish-Crème Latte is the best coffee on campus.
