Liberal Policy Forum

Wednesday 7 March 2012
12pm - 1pm
Manning Meeting Room 1
Free
Sydney University Liberal Club

Are you tired of the Liberal Party being accused of being anti-intellectual? Do you wish you had more arguments at your disposal to silence your left-leaning friends? Are you curious as to why certain policies are supported by the Liberal party and others are not? Then these new weekly policy forums are for you! Happening in Manning Meeting Room 1 every Wednesday at noon, these discussion are aimed at providing an intellectual and rhetorical exploration into liberal policy and philosophy. We aim to look at why certain liberal policies should be supported, and question whether other policies are in line with liberal and conservative ideology? Why is the carbon tax the wrong environmental approach to adopt? Why are we in Afghanistan, and are we winning? Is adopting a bill of rights a progressive, conservative or liberal policy? These are all questions these policy forums aim to answer, in a relaxed setting designed for young conservatives to gather, participate and argue.

The inaugural forum of the first week of university will, in the wake of the American Presidential Primary, look at the role of Libertarianism in Liberal and conservative ideology. Then we will investigate principled and practical arguments surrounding the Liberal Party's opposition to a Carbon Tax.
