2010 Final Results!
First – The Dead Heads
Second – The Tourist
Third – Set
Sail Competition was fierce and the support was even fiercer with 600 people cramming into Manning to witness the 26th Annual Sydney Uni Band Comp Final last Thursday 2nd September.
A great night was had by all but in the end first place went to The Dead Heads for playing what can only be described as one hell of an exciting show to finish off the night.
Former USU Entertainment Manager Will Balfour and current Verge Festival Director Shannon Connellan were on
hand to hand over the giant novelty cheques to the happy place getters. What a night!
See you all next year!

2010 Final Line-up:
Set Sail
Set Sail started with a classical violinist and a California hippie busking on the street. This unlikely combination of a Matt Costa influenced skater kid with a melodramatic, Arcade Fire-esque violinist created a fresh, organic sound; completed when Josh May's jazz precision and danceable groove was thrown into the mix.

The Dead Heads
Conceived 2years apart Oscar and Ali grew up with the same ear for music and quickly developed a connection spirited by grunge, jamming out in the cold winters of the southern highlands to recoup heat only furthered their musical bond
Jackson Gunn
Jackson Gunn, son of a preacher and a teacher. Picked up some chops playin out near deno's diner on the ugliest street in Sydney the princes highway. Irish bars, ill fitting bras. Smashed a bottle in his throat one day to forget himself and sound like someone else...tryin hard to get reborn every day. Elementary blues about religion and women.
Mind Priorities
Mind Priorities have been together for nearly 4 years, over which they have played at Coaster Festival, the Easter Show, and have supported bands such as After The Fall. They are a dynamic live act, who are driven to keep performing & write new material.
The Future Prehistoric
Existent in different forms for a number of years, The Future Prehistoric can be described as the final step of a long odyssey in search of a unique musical identity. An exciting combination of five very different hair cuts and shoe-sizes, the band has overcome near fatal desperation in the search for a singer as James Klotz was delivered (via stalk, may I add) on the doorstep of a very noisy inner-city home. The rest, as in every fairytale or Hugh Grant film, is history. With freshly recorded songs and a live show that has been compared to the intensity of Ogalo's chilli, The Future Prehistoric are enigma (even to themselves) that do not sound quite like anyone that they've ever heard of. Even so, they hope that their music effects you as much as others has them.
The Tourist
The Tourist formed at the end of 2009 between cousins Dan and Dave. What started off as an acoustic folk duo has gradually become an indie-rock quartet, following the recruitment of Adam on Drums, and Lizzy on keys and harmonies. The Tourist are inspired by artists like Grizzly Bear, Bon Iver and Leonard Cohen. We have finished recording our debut EP - 'Wooden Legs, Real Feet' - which will be released later this year.
2009 Final Line-Up:

The Conditionals
Violence and sloppy eating
Foveaux
We've played music together for a number of years but have only recently put our ideas into a live performance. We want to make music for a living, this is the beginning.
Kyu
Kyu are a new-ish Sydney experimental pop duo, who describe their sound as "a tea party with Beethoven, Bowie, Bjork and a Banshee.

Moravia
Song based, hook laden Indie/Rave/Rock with lyrical depth and a great purpose. The sydney fourpiece, obsessed with energy and passion, perfecting great songs and the history of rocknroll, are a joyous ruckus both live and on record. The Band's debut, self released single 'I loved Ann Jones' gained them high recognition with the winning of a videoclip through Vraw, as well as rotation on Triple J. With their videoclip poised for release on Channel V, Rage and MTV, Moravia are writing and perfecting songs to be released over the second half of 2009.
Stephanie Says
Stephanie Says formed at the start of this year having been inspired by the quality of music currently coming out of Australia and drawing on influences from 60s garage bands to 80s post punk and 90s britpop and shoegaze. Leveling their love of fuzz and drone with sincere songwriting, whilst not being afraid to relax and enjoy themselves on stage; Stephanie Says is a fun and interesting watch.

Super FLORENCE Jam
Super FLORENCE jam are an underground sensation. With a reputation of an electric live show and innocative original rock, this Sydney foursome have played to packed and passionate crowds across Sydney and promise a spectacle wherever they perform.
