Axis of Awesome

Axis of Awesome are The World’s Most Awesomest Comedy Band. In the incredible time that they have been together, they’ve developed an extensive repertoire of harmonious hilarity. Their mixture of original comedy songs and pop parodies has blow audiences away around Australia, and across the globe. Their famous Four Chord Song is one of the highest rated comedy videos of all time on YouTube, and has received over 20 million hits.

Axis of Awesome have made TV appearances in Australia, the US, the UK, Asia and Europe, but we’ll be welcoming them back at the University of Sydney for our comedy night to share their home-grown talent. You’ll have heard their hits on the albums “Scissors, Paper, ROCK!” and “Infinity Rock Explosion”, and caught a glimpse of their uproarious performances on the “The Axis of Awesome Live” DVD, which has been a hit with audiences worldwide.

Since forming Axis of Awesome in 2006, Jordan (who enjoys Snickers bars and the music of David Bowie), Benny (who enjoys Super Mario Galaxy and the music of Billy Joel) and Lee (who sunshine and the music of Hannah Montana) have left men laughing and women gasping (and also laughing). Before long you’ll be laughing and/or gasping, depending on your gender.

Tom Ballard

Ever since he played Blitzen in a local amateur production of Rock'n'Roll Santa back in 1997, Tom Ballard's comedy career has been on a steady decline. Having overcome serious sex and chocolate milk addictions at 14, by 2006 Ballard had managed to become a three-time Class Clowns National Finalist and a RAW National Finalist.

On the strength of his RAW performance, Tom was offered work with national youth radio network, Triple J, and you can hear him on your airwaves each day co-hosting Triple J’s breakfast show with his silly friend, Alex Dyson.

Tom has performed everywhere from the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, to Just For Laughs in Montreal and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. He’s been a guest on many a radio stations across Australia, and was a regular guest on Network Ten’s Good News Week and currently you can see him fortnightly as ‘Resident Expert’ on The Project.

Tom’s mum thinks he's quite funny, but wishes he wouldn't swear quite as much as he does.

Michael Hing

Michael Hing is a stand up comedian of sorts. 2011 has been a busy year for this up and coming performer - he was nominated as TimeOut’s Best Sydney Comedian Awards, and he’s been kept busy as co-runner of Project 52, which was named Best Comedy Room in Sydney by the same publication.

Michael performed his debut solo show “I’m Only Doing This Because They Won’t Let Me Be a Rapper” to sold out audiences at the Sydney Fringe Festival. He performed on Homebake 2011’s Comedy Stage in December, and has supported internationally acclaimed comedy acts including Jamie Kilstein and The Axis of Awesome.

Michael will be performing his solo show at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival in 2012, which he describes as "a show about equality, racism, and probably dick jokes. Always dick jokes".

‘Michael Hing, is slightly crazy, wicked smart, and one of the funniest f***ng comics I have ever seen.’ - Jamie Kilstein

‘Michael isn’t so much telling jokes anymore as he is dealing with his issues.’ – Sidney Critic
